HOME
What happens if the place you call home vanishes beneath your feet?
The world you once knew, now gone. “Home” is unfamiliar, strange.
In 2017, Tantrum’s Trajectory Ensemble, lead by Janie Gibson, collaboratively devised a brand new theatre work; HOME.
In an intimate performance Tantrum’s Trajectory Ensemble weave a sea of stories from original poetry, found texts, songs, myths and music in a personal exploration of what it means to feel at home: in the world, in your country, in your suburb and in yourself.
HOME won Best Sound Design (Huw Jones) and received nominations for Best Direction, Best New Work, Best Set Design and Best Supporting Actress in the 2017 CONDA Awards.
“Art scintillates when brave and authentic…HOME‘s collation of words by various entities, is a remarkable achievement, showcasing a valuable range of perspectives that form a truthful and timely representation of where we are today, as a society and a collective consciousness. In bringing their audience their most authentic vulnerabilities, the artists compel us to connect, with the work and with each other. Enclosed and tethered, we think about the spaces we share, and the inevitability of our dependence on each other.”
– Suzy Goes See
“Wonderful to see young actors full of energy and passion bringing theatre to life in a very personal way.”
– Theatre on the Town
“The ensemble cast is a dynamic group of young people who throw themselves into the show with gusto and enthusiasm. Together, they create worlds onstage with poetry, movement and music about what it means to be young in Newcastle. Interwoven stories of migration, war, loss and strength are laced throughout the show, as well as themes of diversity, feminism, family…the Baby Boomer generation and the plight of the millennial.” – Emma Jane, Weekend Notes
The production premièred in October 2017 at PACT, Sydney before returning to Newcastle for a season at the Civic Theatre Playhouse.

The Ensemble is open to artists aged 18-26 or within their first 5 years of professional practice.
