Professional Development

Throughout the year, Tantrum hosts professional development opportunities for early or mid-career artists. These opportunities take the form of masterclasses led by professional artists, or workshops in arts business, to support the strength and development of professional arts practice thriving in the Hunter region. Tantrum is committed to keeping arts education as low cost as possible.

Live Cinema Workshop with re:group (29 September)

Presented by re:group Performance Collective, in partnership with New Annual

Date: Monday 29 September
Time: 1pm to 3pm
Venue: Tantrum Youth Arts, Merewether

BOOK HERE

An introductory masterclass in the techniques of live cinema.

In this workshop, participants will collaborate with re:group to recreate a short sequence of live cinema on stage: a trailer, a scene, a montage from your favourite film or TV show. The workshop will allow you to create, wear and trade the varying hats of actor, camera operator, editor and director, and learn how re:group use collaborative film techniques to create live cinema performance. The workshop is open to artists and performers from all backgrounds. No experience necessary, just a love of theatre, film or both.

Who is presenting?

re:group performance collective is Mark Rogers, Solomon Thomas, Malcolm Whittaker, Steve Wilson-Alexander and Carly Young. Inspired by the highs and lows of pop culture, we work as an ensemble to mash theatre-making and movie-making together to create live cinema. Our aim is to turn the typically comfortable and passive movie-going experience into something immersive, irreverent, sweaty and live.

Venue: Tantrum Youth Arts, Merewether

Join Adriane Daff, the core artist from The Last Great Hunt for Wild Play – a one-off 90 minute theatre and performance making workshop.

Wild Play is the term that the Hunters use for super early-stage development where the artists get in the room with the slightest hint of an idea – no story or characters – and play! Unlock your creative potential and learn strategies for sparking fresh ideas and collaborating with others.

Packed with practical tools, this workshop will empower you to ignite your creativity and guide you how to develop original, multi-dimensional performances from scratch.

Who is presenting?

The Last Great Hunt is an internationally renowned collective of five theatre makers: Gita Bezard, Adriane Daff, Jeffrey Jay Fowler, Arielle Gray and Tim Watts. They are creators, innovators and above all else, explorers. With each new theatre experience, they hunt for new ideas and new ways of connecting with their expanding audiences across Australia and the world. The Hunters create high quality, rigorous, relevant and entertaining original work. Created in Boorloo/Perth, Western Australia, their work features an eclectic variety of forms, styles and experiences. The Last Great Hunt strives to give our audience an engaging, challenging and moving night out at the theatre.
